We’re looking for an intern to join the Experience team within the Innovation and Digital Health Accelerator (IDHA) at Boston Children’s Hospital. This role reports to the IDHA Equity and Inclusion Specialist. You will assist the Specialist with:
- Coordinating each of our 11+ product teams within the Digital Health portfolio as they measure their equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) initiatives,
- Advocating for equity and fairness within pediatric healthcare AI initiatives,
- Establishing priorities for electronic health record language and other improvements within Epic systems,
- Collaborating with enterprise leadership regarding Digital Health Equity initiatives,
- Developing access goals for digital literacy within departments, and
- Building out rationales for all teams is working towards a shared goal to ensure our digital health products are equitable, inclusive, and accessible for all of our users.
You will use research, critical thinking, analytics, and social skills during meetings and asynchronously to navigate the nuances of EDI within a diverse range of products. Additionally, if applicable, you will assist in writing grant applications for inaugural and existing digital health equity programs by participating in market research, outlining stages of development, and allocating budgets appropriately.
This role relies on creativity and requires a strong desire to implement innovative improvements to products that influence the health and wellness of our patients and families.

Digital Health
The Digital Health Team is responsible for sourcing, launching, and scaling new digital innovations across the enterprise. We are a mission-driven team with diverse backgrounds- including product managers, strategists, and clinicians, and are passionate about leveraging digital to build the care delivery model of the future.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Attend, summarize, and report out on webinars, seminars, and conferences about digital health, AI in healthcare, health equity, digital literacy, and more.
- Meet with product teams, AI and automation teams, and leadership workgroups alongside the Specialist and take notes, summarize, and report on the EDI metrics and impact progress.
- Interpret and report out on metrics to product teams when discussing progress toward goals
- Assist in government relations efforts by scanning the market for state and federal policies and initiatives that affect healthcare via pediatrics, digital health, and AI
- Assist in grant applications by scanning the market for upcoming grants, outlining application requirements, and aiding in developing a rationale
- Provide occasional and ad hoc support as requested
Project details:
- Product Teams – Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Objectives and Key Results
- Each patient-facing digital health product team has specific goals and objectives that work to improve their equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility for our patients and families. This project tracks these metrics and consults the teams when expanding goals, formatively evaluating progress, and overcoming obstacles. The project team uses a variety of formats for metrics including but not limited to internal BCH 360 patient data, Epic slicer-dicer, vendor platform data, surveys, focus groups, Community Needs Assessments, and other external formats.

- Significant funding for new and expanding initiatives is provided by external grants. Health Equity grant opportunities arise and the project team sources them through market research, pitches them to the internal leadership, creates a rationale, and applies them based on requirements. If approved, the team will then participate in building out the intervention.
- Support as needed on other projects and tasks
Relevant Experience & Qualifications
- Interest in health equity, accessibility, and improving the patient and family experience at a hospital through a digital lens
- A self-starter able to shift between projects, collaborate with a diverse range of peers, and able to work independently
- Experience using data to track and analyze results and make recommendations
- Ability to work cross-functionally and collaborate with a variety of program stakeholders
- Ability to solve complex problems, view existing solutions with a new perspective
- A creative person who brings new ideas to the table

- Location: Intern may work hybrid, with the expectation that interns attend most onsite Tuesdays. Interns must be located in approved New England states: MA, RI, CT, ME, or NH.
