Sophomores! Start Thinking About CDI 301!

Hey, Class of 2024 Falcons! Although class registration for Fall 2022 has not begun, it’s time to start thinking about how you will differentiate yourself to potential employers through your coursework. However, junior year is also the year to narrow down the career options you want to pursue and truly figure out what interests you. At that point, you may be sure of your major(s) and minor(s) and maybe already have some experience in the form of an internship or part-time job under your belt. This is a great way to pivot into one of the greatest resources included with your Bentley education: Career Development Intensive 301!

You likely took CDI 101 and CDI 201, where you were able to first learn the basics of applying to jobs (through the creation of important documents such as resumes, cover letters, and more), created a LinkedIn, learned about additional career development resources, and even got practice with the many styles of interviews. So why take another several week-long career-focused course? Let’s get into the many reasons to start considering adding CDI 301 to your schedule if it is offered next semester!

  • It will not take up too much of your time!
      • CDI 301 courses typically run once a week and end halfway into the semester. Last year, CDI 301 classes met once a week for four weeks.
  • You can get much more individualized career help.
      • Because the class sizes are typically smaller, there are far more frequent opportunities to participate and ask specific, in-depth questions.
  • Everybody in the class will have the same major!
      • CDI 301 is typically run based on specific majors and taught my career coaches with expertise in those industries. That way, you will get personalized advice and be able to create tailored resumes for specific positions.
  • Gain access to major-specific resources.
      • Learn how to best interview for your dream positions. CDI 301 has amazing resources for ways to ace interviews depending on what industry you’re in. Also, because everyone in the class has had a similar education path, you can make connections in class such as finding friends who will help you practice your interviewing skills.
  • Create a personalized career action plan.
      • With the help of guided exercises, you can develop short-term and long-term goals that align with your future plans. Since you learned what industries you were most compatible with and interested in within CDI 101 and 201, CDI 301 can help you narrow down roles within those industries. Additionally, CDI 301 will help you show off your credentials and expertise in the most effective ways for your dream employers.
  • You have nothing to lose!
    • The course is typically not offered for credit, meaning that it can only help you and will not add the additional stress of studying or grades onto your plate.

Keep an eye out for more information regarding CDI 301 coming out later, but start considering continuing your Career Development Intensive education and finishing it out with this extremely valuable course!
