My Amazing Summer Interning with: Partners Healthcare!

Hear from a Bentley student who shares information on their summer internship experience with Partners Healthcare! Partners HealthCare is an integrated health care system, founded by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, that offers patients a continuum of coordinated and high-quality care.

Kelly Cheng, Computer Information Systems Major, Class of 2020

Clinical Systems Intern

This summer I interned at Partners HealthCare as a Clinical System Intern. A large chunk of my internship consisted of working on an archival project between Partners HealthCare and Newton Wellesley Hospital. My responsibilities included validating data, giving daily updates to my managers, and testing the functionality of the hospital archival system.

I found out about this internship from a friend who is involved in the same sorority as I am. We did not know each other very well but I decided to reach out anyway and send her my resume. She passed my resume along and the Clinical Systems department manager emailed me in regards to an interview.

My academic coursework has helped me tremendously with my internship. My daily tasks included using Microsoft Excel very frequently and working with sheets that had more than thousands of records. Having prior knowledge in Excel helped a lot as it quickened the rate of which I completed my work.

My advice to other students with a CIS major is to be open minded. Do not limit yourself to one certain industry. I never thought about an information technology career within the healthcare field but since working at Partners HealthCare, I’ve considered the idea more. Interning at Partners HealthCare was a great first internship for me.
