The first segment of Career Services’ new talk show, HIRE Love is all about the importance of reflection. In the episode, hosts—Alyssa Hammond, Colleen Murphy, Susan Brennan, and Kristine Vidic—discuss the importance of “pressing pause” to think about what you’ve just experienced. They point out that in the fast-paced world we live in today, we are always so busy thinking about what’s happening next that we don’t stop and think about our current experiences. However, it is incredibly important to take the time to think about what we are doing and evaluate how it’s going—particularly when it relates to your career. They suggest building time into your daily routine to evaluate how things are going, take an inventory of your likes and dislikes, and analyze how the experience aligns with your strengths. If you take the time to evaluate your past work or internship experiences, it will help you figure out if you’re going in the right direction—and if you’re not then it may point you in the right one! As the job and internship search season takes of, it is a good idea to “press pause” and reflect on your past experiences so you can use that reflection to figure out what your next steps should be. Later in the episode, 2015 Bentley Graduate, Andrew Johnston, talks about his experience with self-reflection and how it has impacted his career path.
