Halley McDevitt

Hi! My name is Halley McDevitt and I am a senior majoring in Information Design and Corporate Communications and minoring in Marketing. Originally from California, my plans are to return home after graduation in May. During my four years on campus, I spent two of them heavily involved with athletics and playing on our softball team. Fall of my junior year, I decided to focus on my education and decided to retire from the team and start working in the Career Services Office. Our office atmosphere is awesome; all the advisors and colleagues are passionate about helping our students reach their career goals. As a Think Tank Consultant this year, I work along Julia and we work with our advisors to better the services and experience that our students get from Career Services.

nonprofits

For this last week, I want to leave you with some last advice and resources to aid you in your pursuit of nonprofits.

I have found that there are many ways that you can incorporate nonprofits into your classes at Bentley. In addition to the specific nonprofit classes, there are several classes that work directly with nonprofits as part of the curriculum. I am taking Intro to Management Consulting Skills (MG 341) and we are doing a semester long project …

Passionate Perusal: The Nonprofit Approach Week 5

nonprofits

Winter break (or summer) is a great time to get some hands on experience with nonprofits. Find an organization whose mission aligns with your interests and volunteer some of your break to get involved.

I have spent a week of all of my winter breaks volunteering with Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief and in the process found a passion of mine that I didn’t know existed. Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief provides relief to victims of natural disasters in two phases: cleanup …

Passionate Perusal: The Nonprofit Approach Week 4

nonprofits

Bentley offers a variety of classes that focus on nonprofits, some of which are required for the nonprofit minor. I have taken both Marketing for Nonprofits (MK 366) and Theory and Management of Nonprofits (MG 365). Governmental and Not-for-Profit Reporting (AC 331) is also offered. These classes are a great way to learn more about the nonprofit industry and they also provide a way to learn more about specific nonprofits and even get involved with some.

In my management class, …

Don’t have an internship yet? Take advantage of Job Shadow Opportunities for Freshmen & Sophomores!

Job Shadows

There’s no doubt Bentley pushes us to get us as much internship experience as possible. At times we are put under a lot of pressure to land that internship with great companies like KPMG, E&Y, Epsilon or Windsor Marketing Group.   But as a freshman or sophomores, you may have experienced the dreaded “We aren’t hiring for the summer” or “Maybe in a few years” response when applying for coveted internship positions.

Well at Career Services, we have the answer to …
