Cracking the Coding Interview Prep Session

This past Tuesday, September 30th, I attended the Cracking the Coding Interview Prep Session, with alum Nick Hentschel ’14 (BS CIS) of Wayfair. The session offered practical advice for acing coding interviews and offered a true insider perspective on what tech companies look for in candidates.

Nick addressed core topics like coding interview questions, effective problem-solving techniques, and how to review basic data structures and algorithms. Nick also took a moment to highlight communication, teamwork, and networking within the tech industry, reminding us that technical skill is only half of what makes a candidate extremely competitive.

The workshop was also highly interactive! Nick did individual work with students within the larger group to rephrase resume bullet points to make them more attractive to tech recruiters, which is a very actionable takeaway that will render applications stronger.

Overall, this session was a great reminder that coding interview prep is not entirely about memorizing algorithms (that is very important don’t get me wrong) but also about thinking critically, communicating effectively, and taking advantage of the opportunity to learn from practitioners in the field directly.
