What is Business-Forward Attire?

A term that is gaining popularity in the workforce is “business-forward” attire. You may be wondering, what in the world does that mean? Thankfully, the term is not as complicated as it sounds.

According to Google, business-forward attire generally means a professional and polished look, often leaning towards business professional or smart casual, depending on the workplace, but with a focus on looking modern and stylish while maintaining a professional image.

Here’s a breakdown of what it typically entails:

Fabric: Choose fabrics that are appropriate for the season and the workplace. For example, in winter, wool and cashmere are good choices, while in summer, cotton and linen are more breathable.

Business Professional: A classic suit (dark colors like navy, gray, or black), a crisp white or light blue shirt, a tie (optional, but can be a good choice for formal events), and polished dress shoes; a tailored pantsuit or skirt suit, a blouse or dress shirt, and polished dress shoes (heels are optional, but a classic pump is a good staple).

Business Casual: A blazer or sport coat over a collared shirt or a polo shirt, with dress pants or dark-wash jeans (ensure they are well-fitted and not ripped or distressed), and dress shoes or loafers; a blazer or jacket over a blouse or sweater, with dress pants or a skirt, and dress shoes or flats. .

Key Elements for both: Well-fitted clothing, clean and polished presentation, and a focus on quality over trends.

General Tips:

Accessories: Keep jewelry and accessories simple and elegant.

Hair and Makeup: Well-groomed hair and a natural, professional makeup look.

Cleanliness: Ensure clothes are well-pressed and shoes are clean and polished.

Consider the Workplace Culture: Some workplaces are more formal than others, so it’s important to pay attention to the specific dress code or expectations.
