Title: The Frederick Douglass-Daniel O’Connell Global Internship 

There is a unique opportunity for students interested in expanding their horizons and gaining invaluable experience abroad: the Frederick Douglass-Daniel O’Connell Global Internship, is a fully funded scholarship to study and intern in Dublin, Ireland during the summer of 2025! 

This program was established in 2017 and called the Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship by the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE), this program honors Frederick Douglas’s transformative journey to Ireland over 175 years ago. Twelve students will be selected for this internship in Dublin, where they will engage with the legacies of Douglass and O’Connell. This internship is an opportunity to learn, grow, and make connections that could shape your future. 

The program is Co-sponsored by CIEE, the Government of Ireland, and the African American Irish Diaspora Network, all costs associated with the program are covered, including: 

  • Housing 
  • Airfare 
  • A stipend for living expenses during the internship 

In addition, eligible students who apply but are not selected for the fellowship will automatically receive a $1,500 grant to use toward any of CIEE’s summer or semester programs through Summer 2026. This ensures that even if you aren’t chosen for the internship, you still have a fantastic opportunity to study abroad. 

More Information: To apply for the Frederick Douglass-Daniel O’Connell Global Internship, students must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be a current undergraduate freshman, sophomore, or junior from an accredited institution. 
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. 
  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident. 
  • Be Pell Grant-eligible
  • Submit a complete application by November 29, 2024 (the earlier you apply, the better!).
