Finding Happiness At Work

After all, success looks and feels different depending on who you are and what you want out of life. But there is one thing that most people agree on, no matter what you do for work, it would be nice to be happier while doing it! So what are some tangible ways that you could make that happen? Below are my tips, but if you want to read about somebody else’s experience with this, here’s a great article for you.

To be happier, I think you should:

  • Set up enjoyment throughout the day.
    • If you like music, play music at points of time when laser focus isn’t required and you aren’t at meetings. Take a walk to get a coffee or take a few minutes to laugh with a coworker. These are the little things that can make a day go by faster, and make your work experience better.
  • Don’t be afraid to speak up.
    • If there’s work you’d rather be doing at your firm, advocate for yourself and get it. At least shadow it. Opportunities may be passing you by because supervisors cannot read your mind or tell exactly what you want out of your role.
  • Have multiple support systems.
    • Create a network of support that you can lean on, at and out of work. For example, make sure to lend yourself as a resource to colleagues so that you may also ask for their advice and expertise at points. The same goes with finding a mentor at work that you can ask about advancement and career opportunities. Additionally, make sure you also have a support system at home as well, to complain about your job on days when even these tips don’t work!
