How can you propel yourself forward with a career in tech? Treat your career like a startup.
1. Think big.
Be bold in goal setting.
2. Focus on one skill that you can “sell.”
Choose one strength to perfect.
3. Diversify
Be willing to learn new skills.
4. Take time to understand what protentional “customers” (employers) consider valuable.
Conduct informational interviews, read blogs, listen to podcasts, and acquire target skills on job postings.
5. Build your brand.
What does your self-promotion (verbal (networking), written (CV/resume/cover letter), online (LinkedIn, Handshake, and social media platforms) look like?
6. Find trustworthy partners and advisers.
Find mentors and thought partners that will build you up.
7. Improve your efficiency.
Curate your involvement rather than collecting involvements. Focus your time and energy on where it will be best spent.
8. Be patient during periods of change.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Be kind to yourself as you learn, adapt, and grow.
