Meet the Pulsifer Career Development Center’s Newest Addition: Raquel Roque ’14, Administrative Coordinator

The Pulsifer Career Development Center is excited to welcome Raquel Roque ’14 to the team as an Administrative Coordinator! Read below to learn more about Raquel’s position as well as her past professional experiences, and her time at Bentley:

What was your career journey prior to returning to Bentley as an Administrative Coordinator?

Prior to joining the team here at the Pulsifer Career Development Center, I worked in the commercial real estate field. I initially started as an administrative assistant, but due to my strong educational background from Bentley, I was able to work cross-functionally across a wide range of teams. I even worked as an accounting analyst! The company offered a lot of room for growth, so I had the opportunity to work as an executive assistant as well. However, I knew I was ready for a change in the direction of higher education, so am really excited to come back to work at Bentley!

What are your typical day-to-day tasks and how do they relate to serving students at Bentley?

I have a wide range of typical day-to-day tasks. I report directly to Melissa Sawyer, a Senior Associate Director, and Operations Manager, and assist accordingly in ensuring that our office is running as smoothly as possible in being a strong, reliable resource for students. We work to contribute to the professional success of students.

What activities and organizations were you involved with when you were a student at Bentley?

When I was at Bentley as an undergraduate student, I was heavily involved in Student Advisory Board (currently CAB) in planning large-scale events such as Spring Day. Additionally, I am a proud member of Bentley’s STEP program with Claudette Blot! This allowed me to continue my involvement with the Multicultural Center (MCC) and numerous cultural organizations such as La Cultura Latina, Black United Body, and one of my best friends founded the Cape Verdean Student Association when we were at Bentley!

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy working out at the gym and going on runs! Additionally, I am a big fan of trying new restaurants and writing reviews on Yelp, OpenTable, and Tripadvisor! Travel is also a huge part of my life; my husband and I try to go on two tropical vacations per year.

What are you most excited about starting this new role?

I am beyond excited to be back at Bentley and to see things from the staff’s perspective. I am also really excited to be at Bentley for our school’s first president of color. It has been really great to see Bentley prompted to take action in regards to social justice/activism and back it up with some tangible steps towards diversity, equity, and inclusion.

How did you use the Career Center when you were at Bentley?

When I was a student, I made use of the Career Center a lot! I took advantage of almost every resource, such as mock interviews, resume reviews, 1:1 coaching, and everything in between! I specifically remember meeting with Alyssa for career coaching and leaving feeling confident in my professional abilities!
