Before:
- Attend the Career Fair Prep session for all undergraduate students on Tuesday September 17 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in the EDR
- Download The Fairs App to start preparing your time at the Career Fair – to read more about the app and it’s benefits see our previous posts
- Create a targeted list of companies you hope to speak to
- Finalize your resume and print out multiple copies
- Practice your 30 second elevator pitch
- Research the companies that pique your interest so you have some talking points before meeting individuals
- Generate a list of questions you have regarding available positions
During:
- Dress to impress – a well tailored suit or a conservative dress or slacks and a blouse with closed toed shoes will certainly impress employers
- Have a strong handshake and smile – your non-verbal behavior is important too!
- Ask thoughtful questions about the company culture, the job position, their experience with the company and more
- Inquire about the application process and ask for contact information so that you can follow up
- Take a new and improved LinkedIn headshot at one of the photo booths – they will start at 12:30pm and be available until 4:00pm
- Use the Fairs App to see where all your targeted companies are to create your own plan of attack during the fair
After:
- Reflect on all the individuals and companies you met with to hone in your professional interests
- Follow up to thank them for their time and attach your resume – be genuine and concise with your emails
- APPLY! Now that you have narrowed your interests be sure to go apply online
- Maintain relationships to expand your network – even if a dream company does not have open positions for you today they might always have new opportunities in the future
