What Am I Worth? #CareerToolThursday

When it comes to looking for an internship or full-time position, pay is a common yet uncomfortable subject for most that appears somewhere along the job hunt path. Whether it be on an application or formal offer, most students simply do not know what they’re worth. PayScale is an excellent resource (featured on our Career Edge Resources page!) for finding an accurate and reasonable pay rate based on your previous experience and the location, company, and title of the position you are considering. Be sure to do your research and fill out your pay report for each job you are considering!

Warning: Do not take the number given by your pay report as fact! As a strategy, if you are asked what you are thinking for a pay rate, propose an amount that’s a dollar or two above the pay report, but be flexible! Some companies may come with a lower pay, but have more benefits to account for the lower rate, so be mindful of other aspects of the job that may add value outside of simply the increase in your bank account on pay day.
