With internships becoming increasingly competitive, finding a way for students to distinguish themselves among the applicant pool has never been more vital. Comparatively, with the vast number of employers seeking Bentley students, how can students align themselves with a company that is perfect for them?
Fortunately, Liberty Mutual Insurance has the solution! First and second-year students are invited to apply for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Emerging Talent Summit, a three day externship that provides: invaluable professional development, exposure to the actuarial, analytics, finance, or human resources fields, and the opportunity to interview for a summer 2019 internship!
Don’t just take our word for how great this opportunity is! Recently, Liberty Mutual interviewed two Bentley students who participated in this externship, came back to intern with the company, and later accepted a full-time role. Anna Siefring ’17 (AS) and James King ’18 (JK) had the following to say about their experiences:
Q: What did you enjoy most about the Liberty Mutual Insurance Emerging Talent Summit?
JK: “What I enjoyed most, was learning about the experiences current interns and new hires had. It was really interesting to hear about their experiences and how the company was involving them in meaningful work right from the get go.”
Q: How did the Emerging Talent Summit impact your decision to pursue professional opportunities with Liberty Mutual?
AS: “This [externship] impacted my professional opportunities with Liberty Mutual because I learned about the internship program, the rotational entry level programs and networked with employees at Liberty. Prior to this [summit], I really hadn’t thought much about where I saw myself working and this [externship] gave me the opportunity to see what life was like in a large company.”
Q: What piece of advice can you share to undergraduates looking to participate in this year’s externship?
AS: “Keep an open mind and take every opportunity you can. There is no reason to not apply or attend. Through this experience, you will learn about a great company and only help yourself when looking for internships or full-time jobs in the future.”
JK: “Be curious and involved. When I attended [this externship], my understanding of Liberty Mutual and the insurance industry was very limited; however, through asking questions and engaging in conversations with the event coordinators, employees, and peers, I was able to learn a lot more. [Insurance] is a fascinating industry and I was excited by the prospect to be a part of it.”
