Success In The City: A Reflection

Are you considering signing up for Success in the City – Finance Track? Check out the testimonials from students who participated in the trip last August!

Michael Cavallaro, Class of 2018, is a member of the honors program, majoring in Corporate Finance and Accounting and minoring in Mathematics. Outside of his coursework, he is involved in Greek life as the president of one of our most distinguished fraternities, Sigma Gamma Delta. He is also an active crew member of Love Your Melon, a philanthropic organization that raises money and awareness for pediatric cancer research. His positive experience on Success in the City left him with nothing but good words. He said: “ Success in the City gave me a great perspective on what working and living in NYC is actually like. It was great to see how successful these Bentley alumni are, and I am inspired by them to find my way down there as well.”

Michael Fricke, a current sophomore at Bentley, is pursuing a major in Finance. He is also a Materials & Industries analyst for the Bentley Investment Group and a member of the Bentley Lacrosse team, and outside of Bentley is an analyst for a private equity firm. He reflects on the program saying “The Success in the City trip was awesome! We visited Goldman Sachs, Brown Brothers Harriman, and Morgan Stanley over the course of a day. We got a chance to ask a bunch of questions and get face time with alumni and professionals on Wall Street. Considering there is not any on campus recruiting for any of those firms at Bentley, it was very beneficial from a networking standpoint. While I did not get any interviews or offers from the experience because I am only a sophomore, it created a bunch of connections in a very short amount of time. All in all, I would recommend applying for next year’s trip because of the learning and networking experience it provided. Side note, if you can set up additional meetings with other bank professionals during your time there, you can really maximize your trip to the city.”

Deanna Leung, a dedicated student majoring in Finance and minoring in Spanish for Business also took part in the program. Throughout her past two years at Bentley, she has been an integral part of many organizations including Momentum, Alpha Kappa Psi, Honor Society, and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society. Her dedication to leadership on campus is reflective in her career pursuits. One career goal she accomplished was attending Success in the City, and she sums up her experience perfectly by stating: “The importance of networking is emphasized constantly at Bentley University. However it usually poses a challenge for students to find a connection with a stranger. Success in the City was a perfect opportunity to network with professionals that automatically had a strong connecting factor with me; they were Bentley alumni. I met one alumna at Goldman Sachs who graciously helped me with the interview process and the internship search in general. I am very thankful that alumni take the time to help out their fellow Falcons who were once in our shoes and to Career Services for being the bridge to build these connections.”

Now that you know how much success that Success in the City has to offer, what are you waiting for? Apply now via Bentley Link (applications are due on December 3rd!) and get one step closer to your career goals!
