Vault, Your Go-To Research Tool! #CareerToolThursday

When preparing for an interview, there are many steps that you need to take. Of course, it’s important to brainstorm your answers to potential interview questions, review your resume, practice your elevator pitch, and preparing your outfit. However, arguably one of the most important interview preparation techniques is developing an understanding of the company. In order to do that, you’ll need to do research on everything from its basic company information, to current news to a more in-depth look into its culture. There are many ways to research a company, but what’s the most effective way?

Well, a good starting place is their company website, but that will probably only provide you with surface level information. While it’s an important place to start as it will give you a feel for what the company does, what they value, and how they present themselves, it’s not the only place you should look. After perusing their website, your next step should be to head to the CareerEdge Resources Page* and click on Vault. Vault provides up-to-date rankings and reviews about everything from accounting firms to PR agencies to video game editing companies. Once you’re on the home page, there are many ways to find what you’re looking for. If you’re looking to research a particular company, the easiest way is using the search bar. Once you find the company you’re looking for, you can read in-depth summaries about the various roles at the company, important statistics, and more! There is even a news section that links out to recent news articles.

Vault has many purposes, so be sure to check it out even if you aren’t prepping for an interview! There are industry guides, lists of the top companies for each industry, in-depth career guides, day-in-the-life profiles and much more! Their guides are very comprehensive, in fact they probably contain more information than you could ever want to read. Since the guides are updated frequently, they contain recent information and many of them are incredibly valuable, especially the industry-specific guides!

*Please note: If you’re on campus, you can access it through the Bentley account by clicking on the link on the CareerEdge resources page, but if you’re off campus you will need to create a free account in order to access the information. If you try to access Vault through any other means, you will be asked to pay for a subscription, so be sure to use the CareerEdge link!
