So says, Dave Nicholson, Vice President of Commercial Lending at Marlborough Savings Bank. On Wednesday, November 2, Nicholson delivered a credit analysis workshop to 29 students considering commercial banking as a career path. He provided an overview of lending and spoke about the increased demand within banks and debt capital markets for analysts, portfolio managers and relationship managers who are formally credit trained. Through 2 case studies, students were asked to analyze the financial statements of Boston Beer Company and Sears Holdings. Nicholson presented the methodology and ratios to streamline the analysis, allowing students to more efficiently draw conclusions as to the financial health of each organization. The workshop was co-sponsored by the Bentley Microfinance Group.
