Bentley Interns at Baker Newman Noyes Learn Accounting Is About More Than Just the Numbers

Internships are a great way to gain valuable perspective into a career, especially if you’re still figuring out where your passion lies. In response to this, New England-based accounting firm Baker Newman Noyes (BNN) created a special Three Day Experience program to give curious students the opportunity to learn what a career in accounting is really like through one-on-one job shadows, discussions with BNN’s professionals, and community service projects that represent the heart and soul of BNN’s culture.

This year, BNN hosted 18 college students, including Bentley University students Zoe Gillies, Katherine Murray and Alana Russell, for its 2nd annual Three Day Experience. The students were housed in the beautiful city of Portland, Maine, home to BNN’s headquarters, where they learned about BNN’s tax and audit, as well as the risk and business advisory and healthcare consulting practices, dined with BNN professionals, and participated in the United Way of Greater Portland Day of Caring at Camp Ketcha.

At Camp Ketcha, the  students helped to clean up the grounds and prepare for the summer season alongside 20 BNN employees. Events like this are part of the fabric of BNN’s culture of giving, a practice inspired by the firm’s now-retired founding member, Ellie Baker.

“We enjoy working with Bentley in our recruiting efforts and have hired many alums over the years, including our managing principal Carl Chatto,” said Jennifer Harnish, director of human resources. “The students we meet on campus and in interviews are smart and professional; Bentley does a great job preparing them and offers a strong accounting program, resulting in great candidates for our firm.”
