On the Road with Success in the City- Marketing Track Part 1: Macy’s

The Summer 2014 Success in the City Marketing Track found great success in the Big Apple this year! 15 Bentley students walked the fast-paced streets of NYC and visited four fascinating companies who hosted our Success in the City visit, including: Macys, Marketing Edge, Bank of America, and Alison Brod Public Relations.

Our trip began at Macy’s. Did you know that Macy’s is a 150-year-old retailer and that their first store was located in NYC? Lots of factoids were shared about Macys’ history and their organizational structure. Bentley alumni Mariela Spillari and Stephanie Logan introduced Macy’s Manager of College Relations, Julissa Jimenez. Julissa presented information about Macy’s culture, new corporate initiatives, and the hiring process. There are so many opportunities waiting for you at Macy’s, but the competitive nature of the company suggests that students begin by getting to know Julissa, who will likely be a key player in hiring them.

During the visit, Macy’s Executive Development Programs were highlighted. These programs offer a wide range of real-world business concepts to students, including product development, assortment planning, financial and location analysis, advertising, merchandise procurement, allocation and replenishment. There’s something at Macy’s for all majors! All students interested in working for Macy’s should visit their website to apply now!

Alumnus Mariella Spillarim highlighted the event planning strategy she uses to make the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade a success. Mariella also shared information about the Macy’s Charities Support Program. Macy’s is highly involved in giving back to the communities in which they serve and their corporate office makes a commitment to helping many non-profits throughout the country. Further, Macy’s strives to use innovative methods to build brand loyalty with their customers. There are so many things we love about this great company!
