Code Red: Crisis Communications and The Boston Marathon Panel on 2/24

A panel discussion sponsored by The Publicity Club of New England and PRSA Boston     Following the twin bombings at the Boston Marathon and the dramatic manhunt for suspects, the Boston-area community was faced with tragedy and confusion. However, heroic efforts of first responders and medical professionals, and emergency preparedness and response systems have been credited in savings lives and minimizing chaos.

A tragic event affecting athletes, attendees, first responders, businesses and a local community – valiant efforts were made to communicate accurately and in real-time through traditional and social media. This panel discussion will focus on crisis communications and key lessons learned from successful emergency preparedness, including:

  • Preparing for a crisis
  • Designating communications priorities
  • Managing media and public inquires
  • Communicating with local officials and authorities
  • Utilizing tools and technology to communicate to the public
  • The aftermath and rebuilding a community

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to The One Fund.
