Want to know more from people who know?

Two current Colleagues, Halley McDevitt and Julia Paradis, are here to give you the inside scoop about the program and answer some of your questions before you apply.

Q: What is your position in the Career Colleague Program?

A: The two of us are Think Tank Colleagues. We each work 10 hours a week and spend that time working closely with executive career services leadership and staff to find areas for improvement in terms of development and delivery of services. These ideas are turned into development projects that we facilitate to make office processes as effective and efficient as possible to benefit the student experience! This includes researching ideas or problems proposed by staff and students, creating and presenting a strategic plan, and implementing necessary changes.

Q: What do your peers in other positions in the program do?

A: In addition to our job as Think Tank Colleagues, Cassandra Layman is our CareerEdge Colleague and in charge of running all things social media and CareerEdge. She is the master of the site’s editorial calendar and social schedule and creates content for the sites.  Alison Abrams, Nick Gardner, Matt Cruise, Ashley Latimer, and Tom Cloutier are our Career Colleagues and they are intricately involved with working directly with students, providing advice and resume/cover letter reviews during drop-ins and office hours and co-facilitating CDI 101 classes with staff instuctors among other important objectives.  Additionally, we receive special training sessions throughout the year which allow us to develop our team building and leadership skills. We’re quite the team!

Q: Are there any new developments in the Career Colleague Program that you are looking forward to seeing next year?

A: Yes, there will be two new Student Directors who we feel will take the Career Colleague program to new heights! Career Services is looking for two upperclassman to become managers of the entire Colleague program, to learn the in’s and out’s of the office, and supervise and manage the team and their schedules. These seniors will be coordinators and managers in every sense of the word, working closely with staff directors – their leadership should take the program to a whole new level.

Q: Why should students apply for the Career Colleague program?

A: This program gives students the chance to be leaders on campus in a way that no other on campus program can provide. Students in this program are able to work both with Bentley’s staff and with their peers to use their expertise in a positive way and make a major impact in the career development of Bentley students and the delivery of Bentley Career Services events, programs, and career education. Over the last 3 years, student involvement has changed Career Services for the better in so many ways. With this new structure and increase in student leadership opportunities, the amount of new changes will be unprecedented!

To become a Career Colleague, Think Tank Colleague, CareerEdge Colleague or Student Director, apply on BentleyLink or download the application on CareerEdge today. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to be a (paid) leader on campus!
