Following up after attending a career fair

careerfairEvery year, several times a year, students prepare their resumes, elevator pitches, and professional attire for the Bentley Career Fair. Our career fairs offer students the perfect opportunity to gather information about different industries, functional areas of business, gain insight into many companies and showcase your knowledge and skills, in person.

After you have met with many companies, professional representative, you leave the events feeling elated, over the moon, about the connections you’ve made and are ready for the next step, race to your laptop to send a well-written thank you note.

What comes next?

This begs the question, “how will you stay in touch with the professionals you connected with at the events?”

One way is to make sure you have a touchpoint during or after every semester, or after completing a paper/project, and/or course that’s on par with the company’s mission or functional area of business.

Quick tip: Send a note to the recruiter sharing what you’ve been doing since you last met.

If you can keep your network updated on your progress, you’ll prove that you’re able to build relationships and prove that you have an interest in an industry.
