This summer I had the opportunity to work at Ernst & Young as an HR consultant. As a management and HR major I did not think consulting was something that I could get involved in. However, after working for EY abroad in Brussels, Belgium as a general intern I learned about the consulting opportunities. Once I returned to America I started reaching out to several EY offices and found an Human Capital Internship, which is HR consulting, in Cleveland, Ohio where I’m from. I quickly discovered it was a great fit for me. EY is already a great company to work for because of all of the opportunities they offer. They had a welcome event in Washington DC where I got to meet all of the human capital interns across America, and I also got to go on a Segway tour! Later in the year I had the opportunity to do community service with all 60 interns in the Cleveland office from all service lines, which was a great experience. Lastly, I had one of the most memorable experiences of my life by going to International Intern Leadership Conference at Disney. This conference had over 3,500 interns from all over the world. I got to spend a week listening to different EY executives, learning leadership methods, taking part in team building, and going to the park! Few other internships offer these exciting opportunities than EY. The work I got to do during my internship was also very valuable. I got to work in all facets of HR doing compensation, talent management, performance management, secession planning, and more. As a consultant I got to work with several high level clients and got training in several different aspects of HR. Ultimately, this internship resulted in a full-time offer in the Boston office that I have accepted! The ability to start my career as a consultant for a great company will allow me to get invaluable experience in several aspects of HR and move my career forward.
