Passionate Perusal: The Nonprofit Approach Week 1

I will be graduating in a month and a half and as I look back on my years at Bentley I see that my path towards a future career looks somewhat different than a lot of my peers. The difference? I came into Bentley with the mindset that I wanted to pursue a career with a non-profit organization and I have catered my Bentley experience to fulfill that.

During the next couple weeks, I want to explain a little more about the steps that I took to become as knowledgeable about and as prepared for the nonprofit world as I could. But first, let me tell you a little about me.

My passion for nonprofits started in high school when I became involved in several local nonprofits and I saw the impact that business minded people could have on them. For example, my father, a business owner, serves on the boards of many local nonprofits because he has the business experience to help the vision of the nonprofit succeed. So often nonprofits are started by people with a brilliant vision but they often lack the necessary skills to see them through to completion. It became my passion to be able to provide these skills for the many nonprofit organizations that are working to serve people around the world.

I fell in love with Bentley when I visited during my senior year, and when I saw that a nonprofits minor was offered I was sold. What could be better than attending one of the most prestigious business schools and learning about nonprofit organizations at the same time?

Through the next couple weeks I will outline the different steps I took and explain various opportunities that Bentley provides to prepare students for the nonprofit world.
