Management Majors: It’s all about your skills and interests.

Dear Management majors:

What are your skills and industries of interest? Narrowing your focus.

Management majors should take an inventory of their skills and industries of interest. There are many different functional areas that a Management major fits into, so by taking an inventory of your strengths you’ll be able to narrow your focus to an area of business that utilizes these skills. Next step, research industries of interest. Find an industry that is intriguing to you. Ask yourself, “Why are these industries interesting to me?” For some reason, you have been revisiting a specific company’s website, or following them on Twitter. What is it about that company that is drawing you in?  After conducting your industry research,  find professionals that are working in those industries and interview them. During their career pathing process, professionals have learned quite a bit about skill development; they can share the formula for success. By meeting with professionals representing different industries, you’ll be able to gather valuable information that can help you narrow your focus.
