On the Road with Success in the City-Marketing Track Part 4: Alison Brod PR

Our last stop for the Success in the City Marketing Track was a Public Relations firm, Alison Brod PR. We met with alumnus Erica Warren, Junior Account Manager and a double Falcon! Erica shared a PowerPoint that highlighted what PR is and what it’s not. Let’s just say that PR is a lot of work in an extremely fast-paced environment that can have you working at some interesting product launch parties.

Erica is the junior account manager for a global makeup company. In her role she helps create a buzz for this international brand, motivating consumers to want to buy the products. Erica also shared that part of her job was attending brainstorming sessions- so cool!

Even cooler was their very NYC office space that included an open floor concept, lots of products placed throughout the space, hot pink conference room chairs, and see-through conference rooms that had large modern pictures placed throughout the space. They left us with the key note that PR never stops and being on top of your game, being hands on throughout a new launch of a product is a must! Juggling many responsibilities at once is a major skill needed to have success in this industry.

Takeaway: PR jobs are highly competitive. To land a job in this industry, it’ll take networking and proving yourself through your past experiences and knowledge that you have what it takes to succeed in this fast-paced creative world of PR.

It sounds like a whirlwind of a day, but it was exhilarating rushing past loads of professionals in one of the country’s busiest cities to meet Bentley alumni who taught us how to be successful in NYC. Thank you to our hosts and for making our program such a great success!

We’ll be heading back to the Big Apple in January 2015 so keep your eyes open on CareerEdge for details and the application process in December for the next Success in the City Marketing Track trip!
